"No man is free while others are oppressed"
Sorry for the length.... So to be completely honest I have missed almost a week of my journey to Fearless devotional. Though I haven't read, life's lessons have stilled provoked thought and is moving me to become more fearless.
I have a couple of things to touch base on but Ill start with today's scriptures which are Ecclesiastes 7:13-14, Isaiah 45:7, 1 John 1:5, Psalm 5:4 and Deuteronomy 32:39. Today's scriptures had a lot to do with who God is and what He is capable of. They really painted a picture of power. I think when trying to become fearless, power is necessary. Which made me think of those kids on Michigan Ave this weekend that participated in that mob action.
After reading this story, I felt bad for them and those who were attacked, but mostly for those kids. My aunt told me "no man is free while others are oppressed". I feel like this is SO true. Today's youth are painted to be disrespectful, lazy, violent and down right bad which might hold some truth but I think on their end they just feel powerless. And that feeling can overwhelm you causing you to obtain some power or control of your life anyway you see fit.
So the question is how do you move someone from feeling powerless to powerful then eventually fearless enough to create the life they can be proud of living?
I don't know, but it probably has something to do with love. Loving people the way Jesus loved, with no judgements, no wanting in return, just meeting people where they are and walking with them along the way. Well at least that's what makes me feel powerful, knowing that despite some of my terrible decisions I still am loved and knowing that I have happy, good hearted people around that want to see me succeed. That I'm not constantly labeled negative things makes me feel powerful. I hear a lot of people that are heavy church goers say that God is all power, which I feel is true but sometimes I feel like he allows us to tap into the power He's given us so that we can live fearlessly.
So I'm challenging myself to love people like they deserve to be loved and not by my own standards but the way I feel Jesus loved and also to love myself enough to swallow my fear and stand for what I want (like writing a nice letter to UIC explaining what a great MSW candidate I would make, and why my application should be reviewed).
Be fearless,
Vida
